High Maturity Concepts is a follow-on course to build your skills relative to high maturity capability. High Maturity Concepts is an advanced capability building class focusing on quantitative management practices and techniques.

Who should take the course?

This course is required for those who will serve as Appraisal Team Members on a High Maturity Appraisal, as well as anyone who wishes to understand the CMMI and its role in Statistical Process Control and achieving Quantitative Business Objectives.

Prerequisites for this course:

The Foundations of Capability and one of the Building Excellence courses are pre-requisites to registering for this class.

Building Safety Excellence

Safety in a business setting is increasingly a significant concern, whether this is ensuring that the organization’s staff are working in a safe environment, or limiting the potential hazards to members of the public or customers of the organization. The CMMI Building Safety Excellence course is a one day CMMI Services course that addresses the basics of how to build safety into how the organization operates and its products and services. 

Who should take the course?

The course is necessary for Appraisal Team Members who are intending to be on an appraisal addressing safety and how it is managed in an organization. It is useful for anyone wishing to build a culture of safety in their organization and ensure this culture contributes appropriately to achieving business performance.

Building Security Excellence

Headlines show us almost daily how security is often being tested. This applies to the security of our work places, premises, and the data and intellectual property that we hold.  The CMMI Building Security Excellence course is a one day CMMI Services course that addresses the basics of how to build security into how the organization operates and its products and services.

Who should take the course?

The course is necessary for Appraisal Team Members who are intending to be on an appraisal addressing security and how it is managed in an organization. But it is useful for anyone wishing to build a robust security management system into their organization.

The Building Service Excellence course follows on from the (pre‐requisite) Foundations of Capability course and introduces students to the practices within CMMI V2.0 that cover service delivery. It will teach you how to understand the Services view of the CMMI and apply it to improve the performance and capability of your own service delivery processes.

Who should take the course?

This is a general course suitable for anyone interested in improving the performance of their business or organization.

Prerequisites for this Course:

Students looking to take this course must have first successfully completed the Foundations of
Capability course. Often the two courses are bundled together.

Course Outline

This course is spread over 11 modules which are delivered over a 1 day period through a combination of lectures, group and individual exercises, and class discussions and activities. The modules cover the Delivering & Managing Services content of the CMMI and encourage students to use the CMMI Model viewer throughout. The course revisits the material introduced in the Foundations of Capability course, but looks at how the practices can help inform processes specifically in the context of service development and delivery.

Some of the topics covered during this course include:

  • Improving Service Performance
  • CMMI SVC and Context Specific Views
  • Service Delivery Approaches
  • Service Work Products
  • Planning & Managing Services
  • Analyzing Performance

It will teach you how to understand the Development view of the CMMI and apply it to improve the performance and capability of your own engineering or product development processes.

This is a general course suitable for anyone interested in improving the performance of their business or organization.

Students looking to take this course must have first successfully completed the Foundations of Capability course. Often the two courses are bundled together.

Course outline:

This course is spread over 11 modules which are delivered over a 1 day period through a combination of lectures, group and individual exercises, and class discussions and activities.

The modules cover the Engineering and Product Development content of the CMMI and encourage students to use the CMMI Model viewer throughout. The course revisits the material introduced in the Foundations of Capability course, but looks at how the practices can help inform processes specifically in the context of development work.

The course also introduces additional context material that helps to relate the practices of CMMI to agile development processes.

This is the first in the introductory series of courses for CMMI V2.0 and is a pre‐requisite for taking the CMMI Associate exam or for attendance on one of the Building Excellence courses. Through a mixture of exercises, lectures and class discussions, the Foundations of Capability course will teach you how to use the CMMI V2.0 Model and explain the business value that can be gained by improving your organization’s capability. Successful completion of this course will give you one attempt at the CMMI Associate exam and provides the necessary foundation knowledge to prepare you to take one or more of the subsequent Building Excellence courses.

Who should take the course?

This is a general course suitable for anyone interested in improving the performance of their business or organization.

Prerequisites for this course:

There are no specific pre‐requisites for this course.

Course outline:

This course is spread over 18 modules which are delivered over a 2 day period through a combination of lectures, group and individual exercises, and class discussions and activities.

The modules cover the core content of the CMMI and encourage students to use the CMMI Model viewer throughout. The emphasis is not on pure model content but on the practical use of the model to improve organizational performance and capability.
